Crazy Crystal People Part2

Quartz makes lovely jewellery and it comes in handy in the industrial world. Quartz crystals, beautiful and symmetrical six-sided prisms, can split white light into the full spectrum of colours. Quartz can generate an electric potential in response to applied mechanical stress, making it useful in clocks, watches, pressure gauges, oscillators and resonators.
But can it dispel negative thoughts? Can it prevent alcoholism? Can it boost the immune system? Can it unblock energy centres?
No.
It’s a rock.
Rocks can’t affect the messages travelling along the well-insulated neurons of your brain. Rocks can’t stop you from turning into a wino. Rocks can’t stimulate the immune system - a system that responds to chemical messengers in the bloodstream. Rocks can’t unblock pathways that may or may not exist, simply by being in the same room as you.
As mentioned in Part 1 of Crazy Crystal People, everyone likes to think that crystals are magical. They’re shiny. They come in lots of different colours. Some of them form geometric shapes that appeal to us. There’s nothing wrong with collecting rocks that look purdy.
But why do so many people think that crystals can heal them? And why is quartz, or silicon dioxide, the most abundant mineral in earth’s crust, considered the greatest healing crystal of all?
I’m guessing it’s because it’s pointy.
That pointy prism shape is due to the underlying structure of quartz:
It’s nothing more or less than a coincidental result of the types of bonds between the atoms. There’s nothing mysterious or magical about it. It does not suck in badness, or channel goodness.
We just wish it could. Then we wouldn’t have to make the effort ourselves.
If a rock can transform white light into a rainbow - ONE thing into MANY things - why can’t it work in reverse? Why can’t it take all my scattered, helpless feelings and transform them into a single, glowing surge of confidence and strength?
Check the websites of quartz-addicts and you usually find the words “focus” and/or “meditation” in use.
At spiritual.com.au:
“Rose quartz exposes emotional imbalances; keep a rose quartz in a room where arguments may likely occur; it helps keep the boiling point down. Sit with a rose quartz in meditation when you are feeling perturbed, helps calm you down emotionally and feel an inner peace.”
Excerpt from Krystina Arcati’s book: Gems and Crystal Healing: I find clear quartz very helpful in meditation. It helps the mind to focus; it helps dispel negativities.
At Crystalcavern.com, on the Crystal Wands page:
“This stone acts as a medium for meditation and in communication for all levels of spiritual life. Clear Quartz can also be a great benefit in speeding up healing. It's attributes could fill an entire book, if in doubt use Clear Quartz.”
At Crystalinks.com:
“Quartz crystals have excellent healing properties. Quartz also has the ability to transform an imbalanced energy field. When you feel stressed the crystal can balance your energies and revitalize you.”
It goes on and on.
But feelings are things that reside in your consciousness, things that come from your perceptions, your thoughts, your behaviour and your intentions.
They can’t be beamed into you from a rock. Nor can you beam them into the rock to get rid of them. It doesn’t matter what shape the rock is, or what colour, or whether some shark has set it into a silver handle that looks suspiciously like a relic of Hogwarts.
As for mysterious “energies”, I am so sick of hearing the word “energy” bandied around. Energy comes in various forms, but the only ones likely to penetrate your skin are electromagnetic waves of certain wavelengths (think x-rays and gamma rays -radiation from nuclear bombs).
Quartz definitely doesn’t give off either of those.
So stick that in your energy pipe and smoke it, crazy crystal people. Thinking about your dirty, profitable trade gives me negative thoughts. What I need, in order to get rid of my negative thoughts, ISN’T a big fat quartz crystal (although I find them quite decorative and have always wanted a massive amethyst geode for my loungeroom).
What I need is for you to admit that the healing power of crystals is all in your mind.

Really good article.
I like crystals but I wouldn't stake my life on them.
And what better than a rosy glow to make you feel good, or a pure crystal sparkle to put you on your toes.
