Ever wonder why hearing that infectious laughter ringtone on your Nokia cellphone makes you chuckle? Our brains perceive the sound of laughter and the sight of people laughing more strongly than we do other emotional responses like crying. It's a mirror response that helps us bond socially.
Some people find this as a perfect reason why comedians such as Adam Sandler (or Charlie Chaplin, for that matter) aren't really funny when they're offstage. Or why sitcoms find relief in laugh tracks when the punch line doesn't cut it.
It's really just a brain thing.
