Demented World - by Thoraiya Dyer

When did we start living in a demented world? When did it become possible to advertise a product that "brings health and life to your hair" when, in fact, hair consists of dead skin cells and lifeless keratin? How can something that HAS no life be healthy or unhealthy? When did it become possible to advertise that Echinacea is good for colds and flu, when The New England Journal of Medicine (Vol 353: 341-348, July 2005) in an article by R.B. Turner et al, it was concluded that the happy little plant has absolutely no effect at all? I'm ready to begin my crusade. Welcome to Demented World

Smart car that knows when it's being carjacked?
filed under FREEWARE FUTURE

The transportation of the future, according to scientists and auto engineers, will let us take advantage of these:

Electric cars that run guided on electromagnetic roads

Fuel cell propulsion system and by-wire technology (General Motors' AUTOnomy) that are cheap, simple, and are controlled electronically rather than mechanically

Fuel cells power cars using pure hydrogen and do not emit any air pollutants or greenhouse gases.

Haptic interfaces with tactile sensors that alert drivers if car is running too close next to another car

Vision Enhancement Systems that improve visibility for night driving, inadequate lighting, fog, drifting snow, or other inclement weather driving conditions

Radio signals, sensors and cameras, obstacle detection, collision avoidance and intersection warning systems that avoid potential road accidents

These are spiffy incentives to driving that we'll wonder if the car even needs us. I'd like a car so smart it would run over the carjacker and escape of its own accord without a trace!

This car would have to demonstrate the wonders of biometrics and recognize that I don't jimmy the lock or smash the window when I want to drive back home from the grocer's.

So how exactly is biometrics going to help or hinder us? Read:
